Although basic EMTs are the backbone of any emergency medical services system, higher level caregivers are typically recommended for many inter-facility ambulance transfers, any critical care transport (CCT) ambulances, any air ambulances or when providing care for higher risk events such as motorsports, rodeos, and large concerts. Our basic EMTs are trained not only to provide great basic first aid but they have automated external defibrillators (AEDs) available and are trained in how best to access the local emergency medical system for the rare instances that something more serious occurs requiring a higher level of care. While paramedics are able to provide a higher level of care than EMT’s and are usually recommended, paramedic licensing requirements vary by county so Symons may be required to subcontract with other organizations at some locations.
